10 Back to the Ranch

During a later visit to Barbara’s ranch in Sebastopol, California, Betty and I walked on Doran Beach along the Pacific Ocean. We were in charge of Barbara’s puppy, Felice, as Barbara and Mari rode their horses along the surf line. It was great fun and brought back memories of our Doran Beach walks in years past. We also met Bella, a mustang that Barbara had just adopted. Bella was having a difficult time since the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) had separated her from her mother at a very young age. Today, Bella is doing well at Barbara’s new ranch near Jacksonville, in southern Oregon.

Having just finished reading Bruce Lipton’s book, The Biology of Belief: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter & Miracles, I was anxious to talk to Barbara about the mind, body, spirit connection he described as it related to both horses and humans. I was also able to talk to Mari further about how to approach my ALS journey, and she showed me some bodywork and energy flow techniques that she thought I could benefit from.

One afternoon, I watched an animal chiropractor work with a horse on major spinal issues that had been ignored for years. What stood out to me was how she communicated with the horse to gain his trust and the mutual respect they had for one another.

I also observed the homeopathic medicine Barbara was giving her pet bird suffering from severe neurological issues, as well as to horses with different issues. This piqued my interest, so she explained her experience with this type of medicine. She told me about a doctor to try if I wanted to explore how naturopathic and homeopathic medicine might be an option for me.

That prompted me to fly to Connecticut to meet with Paul Herscu, ND, who has remained an important member of my medical team from the beginning. We regularly connect remotely, and I have been using his recommended homeopathic medicine and dietary supplements for more than twelve years.
